Train The Spirit: Sinners Deny the TRUTH of God's Word.
One of many problems of sin is that we love sin, we crave it, we justify it, we glory in it.
We do what comes naturally
Humanity was created for God and thus we are accountable to Him and the Truth about us as sinners. 1 John 1:8 Says, “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.” As sinners we are separated from God. ( Isaiah 59:2)
Truth is sinners are not broken, they are rebellious against God. As sinners we don’t need to be fixed, we need to be resuscitated. We don’t need to have our limbs pruned, we need new roots. We don’t need to fix a heart valve, we need a new heart with new passions to live for God.
Sin is not blind, I can’t help it choice. Sin is not an uncontrollable act but a voluntary one. As mentioned in previous blogs, we choose sin over God and suppress the truth in unrighteousness (see, Romans 1:18-32, Romans Chapter 2 and 3) There are many types of sins. There’s the sin of pride, lust, jealousy, envy, idolatry, hypocrisy, adultery, homosexuality/same-sex relations, lying, molestation, human trafficking, and the list goes on…..
None of the sins mentioned above are greater than the other, because all sin violates the commands, character, and ways of God. As sinners, we are committed to doing what “feels” natural, or right. This is not only true for us individually but collectively as a human race. Our world is committed to the promotion of sin. According to some statistics, 28,258 users watch pornography every second. Our movies and TV shows promote violence, racism, unfaithfulness, deception, drug abuse, gossip, and jealousy, to name a few, and many of these have become our entertainment. The very things that God hates, we love.
Embracing the Truth to over come sin
In order to address sin, we must first acknowledge to truth about what God says about it. We must develop a knowledge of the character of God through the revelation of his word (The Bible)
In the same way we are evaluated by teaches and coaches based on performance, The bible goes deeper into evaluating our souls. (See, Hebrews 4:12-13 below) One way God revealed is character to humanity was through his Moral Law (the 10 Commandments) (See Exdous Chapter 20 below) he gave to the people of Israel through Moses. God has also revealed Himself through the work and person of the Lord Jesus Christ, Who summed up the 10 commandments into 2 Commandments. The first 4 commandments address or our relationship to God and the last 5 commands address our relationship to people.
Recap: Pray or Meditate On One
Take some time to start a conversation with God. This is the beginning point of prayer. As you wait on His answer, truly wait. Pick a silent spot. This is the beginning of meditation. Pick one of the points below to pray and meditate:
- Truth is founded upon God in Jesus Christ
- The only way to over come sin is to acknowledge it the way Gods defines it.
- Humanity was created for God and we are accountable to Him
- The will of God is revealed in the Word of God
What's In It For Me? Implications
- Sin as been overcome by the work and Person of Jesus Christ which means sin doesn’t have to dominate our lives
- Jesus Christ is eternal and consistent, this is why truth is consistent
- As you confess your sin and receive Christ’s forgiveness you will gain the ability to have Godly passions, desires and hope
- We can trust God’s evaluation of use through is word because unlike teaches and coaches, God is perfect, eternal and the standard of truth, of his evaluation of us will always be accurate
1 John 1:8 (NIV)
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us
Romans 1:18-32 (NIV)
The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles. Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error. Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
Hebrews 4:12-13 (NIV)
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
Exodus 20:1-17 (NIV)
And God spoke all these words: “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. “You shall have no other gods before me. “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments “You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you. “You shall not murder. “You shall not commit adultery. “You shall not steal. “You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”
